Annual Maintenance
Visual inspection of the extinguisher is performed, looking for any damage(s) and confirming the presence of proper tagging and labels. Pressure is checked and the pull pin is inspected to ensure it is not bent. The hose and nosel are then inspected for discharge blockages. Passing extinguishers get fitted with a tag indicating the service received.

6-Year Maintenance
The extinguisher is fully disassembled and emptied. It is de-valved and the inside is inspected. If it passes the visual inspection it is rebuilt. Components of the valve are replaced and the cylinder is assembled and properly labelled to show its inspection results. The extinguisher is then repressurized and the pull pin is reinstalled.

Hydrostatic Testing
At the 12 year mark of a fire extinguisher's life cycle, there are 2 decisions made easier by a visual inspection: replace or recertify. If the cylinder, hose or any of the external components of the extinguisher are damaged, the unit must be replaced. However, if the extinguisher passes visual inspection it is deemed appropriate for hydrostatic testing. The extinguisher is then discharged, disassembled, filled with water and pressure tested. Once the extinguisher is determined to have passed the hydrostatic testing with no leakage, the cylinder is thoroughly cleaned, reassembled and outfitted with proper tagging and collars.

Amerex ABC Fire Extinguishers with Wall Bracket
ABC or Multi-Purpose extinguishers utilize a specially fluidized and siliconized mono ammonium phosphate dry chemical. It chemically insulates Class A fires by melting at approximately 350°F and coats surface to which it is applied. It smothers and breaks the chain reaction of Class B fires and will not conduct electricity back to the operator.
Amerex 2.5 Gallon Model 240 Class A Water Extinguisher
Model 240 utilizes the cooling, soaking and penetrating effect of a 45-55 ft. stream of Water. The 55 second discharge time makes it very effective for inexperienced operators to use on Class A fires. The model 240 may be freeze protected to -40ºF by adding a Model 506 Anti-Freeze charge.
